About Us

The Australian Alumni Association is an umbrella organization that represents alumni from each of Australia's 38 Universities. Unique in this regard, it is the only such association that links Indian alumni of all Australian Universities. Instituted with the patronage of the Indo-Australian chamber of Commerce and Austrade, while being supported by IDP Education Australia, the Australian Alumni Association is slated to be the largest alumni association in India. It intends to be a melting pot of India students from Australia - past and present- and hopes to be a beacon of encouragement for those who intend to pursue their higher education in Australia.

History

The idea was an initiative of IDP Education Australia, which formally launched a body for Australian Alumni on 20th February’2002 by Ms. Lindy Hymm, Chief Executive of IDP Education Australia, during her visit to Chennai. After several discussions with the alumni, the alumni felt the need of an independent organization, which would cater to all the alumni returning from Australia. Then as our society started getting bigger, we formally registered it as Australian Alumni Association, as a not for profit organization in April, 2003. From its modest beginning with two members it has grown to one hundred ninety seven members, this was made possible with the help of my fellow alumni.
